The Expository Playbook for Elementary was produced by Janet Hester, an ELAR Specialist at Region 13. Janet is the author of the Expository Playbook for Elementary and Secondary. She works, writes, and guides professional development with her career experiences in mind. She started her career teaching at Travis High School in Austin ISD. There, she learned from strong teacher mentors how to empower students to feel in control of their lives and academic success, how to build trust and relationships with students, how to laugh with them and create a felicitous and engaging English classroom. She works to use those early lessons about community to build connections with her teacher colleagues. Upon that foundation, she and educators work to share strategies for teaching the power of literature and communicating ideas through writing.
