Use these cards to make basic instruction of addition and subtraction for elementary-aged students more fun, while increasing true knowledge and fluency.

Our FACTastic Math Strategy System is a comprehensive program for teaching basic math facts through strategy-based instruction. The FACTastic strategies and cards (similar to flash cards) are based on research that shows how concrete and visual representations can build students’ subject matter fluency. This set focuses on the basics of addition and subtraction. Downloadable progress monitoring sheets to help track student achievement are included with purchase.

The system includes model lessons that suggest how to teach each strategy through hands-on use of physical objects and visuals. FACTastic helps students build the flexible thinking and solid mathematical foundation that are critical for their success. The included FACTastic Player’s Guide will walk teachers through the teaching of each strategy by emphasizing key points and includes examples of think-aloud techniques.

FACTastic Math Strategy Cards were produced by JC Sanders, an Education Specialist for Special Education at Region 13. JC Sanders has a passion for math education for students with disabilities. As a special education teacher in elementary and middle school math classrooms, JC saw first-hand the struggles that many students faced on a regular basis when they did not have mastery of the basic math facts. As a research associate, she worked on grade 3 and 4 math intervention lessons to help strength students’ with whole number computation. Combining her experience in the classroom and in the world of research, JC has developed the FACTastic Math Strategy System to help students with and without disabilities find success in their math classrooms.
